Global Tech I

About our customer

Global Tech I is one of the first offshore wind farms being built in the German North Sea. The wind farm’s array consists of 80 wind turbines each with a capacity of 5 megawatts and so has a total installed capacity of 400 megawatts. This will realistically provide electricity generated by environmentally friendly wind energy of more than 1.4 billion kilowatt hours per year.

Global Tech I will occupy an area of roughly 41 square kilometres located approximately 180 kilometres from Bremerhaven and 138 kilometres northwest of Emden. The wind farm is being built in the German Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and not within any marine protection zone. Germany’s Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH) granted its approval for the 80 wind power turbines and the associated transformer station in 2006. Construction of Global Tech I started in August 2012 and upon completion it will deliver electricity for an equivalent of 445,000 households with an average consumption of 3,130 kilowatt hours annually.

Global Tech I Offshore Wind GmbH is the project company that will build and operate the offshore wind farm Global Tech I. The company's shareholders are the three energy suppliers Stadtwerke München GmbH, HSE AG (Darmstadt) and Axpo Holding AG, Esportes Offshore Beteiligungs GmbH and the two project development companies Norderland Projekt GmbH and Windreich AG, further FC Wind 1 GmbH, FC Wind 2 GmbH and GTU I GmbH.
