Das Institut für Produktionstechnik und Logistik (IPL) wurde im Jahre 1993 als eines von fünf Instituten des Fachbereichs Maschinenbau gegründet. Das Institut ist heute ein Kompetenzzentrum, welches Fertigungsverfahren, Maschinen und Maschinensysteme, die Organisation, die Logistik und die Fabrik als Ganzes in Forschung und Lehre sowie als Dienstleistung für die Industrie abdeckt.
