New GaBi 4 extension database available
This textile LCA database was jointly developed by ENEA and PE International, with contributions of FEBE ECOLOGIC.
Pre-treatment Dyeing Printing Finishing Fabric Fabric Over 130 single (unit) processes form over 1300 individual process combinations in 140 life-cycle systems. Detailed processes of the textile finishing industry are part of the database including processes like
- Pre-treatment
- Dyeing and/or printing
- Finishing.
The database includes not only unit processes but also system information and all needed
- textile pre-treatment chemicals
- dyes
- textile finishing chemicals
- and some important fabrics.
The finishing processes are suitable for fabrics, yarn, or loose fibres.
May 2005: Extension database Buidling materials
Sustainable construction becomes more and more an issue during the design phase of a building.
PE and IKP (now LBP) developed in cooperation with the German building materials industry a consistent LCA framework and database of building materials within comparable boundary conditions and a prototype for a software tool to assess components and buildings during the whole life cycle.
The data sets are based on average industry data provided by German/ European industrial partners and literature.

PE International exhibits on the POLLUTEC 2004 - The global environment technology event
from 30th November-3rd December 2004 at Lyons Eurexpo, France
The 20th Pollutec, the international exhibition of environment technologies and services, will be held in Lyon. From 30th November to 3rd December this year, the fair is attracting some 2,400 exhibitors, 30% of whom will be from abroad. Over 63,000 trade visitors - from 100 countries - are expected at this global environment event.
Pollutec will offer a unique panorama of solutions to the problems encountered by industry and local authorities in all fields of the environment: water, waste/recycling, of course, as well as air, renewable sources of energy, decontamination of polluted sites and soils, risk prevention and management, coastal protection and development, analysis/measurement/monitoring, cleaning...

GaBi 4 & Ecoinvent
From now on the Ecoinvent database of the Swiss ecoinvent 2000 project is available in GaBi 4.
The database consists of about 2500 consistent, generic processes of different products and services like:
Energy supply,
Building materials and building processes,
Chemicals,
Detergent ingredients,
Graphic papers,
Transport,
Disposal,
Agricultural products and processes.
Two different versions of the Ecoinvent database are available for GaBi 4 users:
Ecoinvent integrated - GaBi 4 extension database. At the beginning of 2004 the Ecoinvent integrated will be available in the GaBi flow hierarchy. Ecoinvent integrated is compatible to the GaBi professional database as well as the GaBi extension databases.
Ecoinvent plain - GaBi 4 extension database. In this version the Ecoinvent flow hierarchy is implemented.
The newest member of the GaBi software family is the GaBi Ecoinvent. The GaBi Ecoinvent is addressed to users preferring to use the most powerful LCA software combined with the Ecoinvent database. The GaBi Ecoinvent comes with the Ecoinvent plain database.

New GaBi 4 Extension Database: Renewable Raw Materials
The range of the GaBi 4 extension databases will expand. The GaBi-Team has developed a database for renewable raw materials. The database will include more than 100 agricultural processes out of:
- fertilizers & pesticides
- tractors & passes
- agricultural equipment
- industrial intermediate products
- different crops like corn, wheat, hemp, flax, rape seat, soybean,...
- and many more
Special topic: the database contains several industrial intermediate products for e.g. producing Biopolymers or fuels. With this database an important gap within LCA will be closed. The GaBi renewable raw materials database will enlarge your focus of LCA to new fields of application.
