Blue water consumption for Ecoinvent datasets

  • Description: In Ecoinvent 3.1 datasets,  the water modelling was revised by ecoinvent.  Water output flows were added, closing the water balance and enabling the calculation of results for blue water consumption (Ecoinvent 2.2 datasets do not provide meaningful results for “blue water consumption”, please use  the “blue water use” quantity instead). Unfortunately when implementing the blue water consumption quantity in SP28, the characterization factors of two flows were forgotten, which leads to unrealistically high results for blue water consumption for ecoinvent 3.1 datasets. Thinkstep datasets are not affected. GaBi Service Pack 29 that will be published 27th of January 2016 fixes this bug, so if you have the possibility to wait for a few days, please do so. As a workaround, when you need your results before the release, please make a copy of the blue water consumption quantity and add the two flows
      • Water [Other emissions to fresh water] {1dd04c88-7207-493f-b819-d95a2f94dbca} and
      • Water [ecoinvent long-term to fresh water] {06d4812b-6937-4d64-8517-b69aabce3648}, giving both a characterization factor of -0.001 kg/m³

    "Nitrogen oxides" flow in the ILCD LCIA (Eutrophication, Acidification and Photochemical ozone formation) methods

    • Description: The flow "nitrogen oxides" does not exist in the Excel file of v1.06 [European Commission JRC-IES: ILCD2011-LCIA-method-documentation files. Characterisation factors v1.06 (Feb 2015)] and therefore has got no characterisation factor here. However for consistency reasons with other flows (nitrogen dioxide, nitrogen monoxide) and to avoid green washing, thinkstep AG decided to implement a factor for nitrogen oxides in aggreement with JRC that will most likely introduce this factor with version 1.07.
